Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Andrew is a fully trained Counselling Psychologist who obtained his Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and a Master’s in Applied Psychology from Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Before this Andrew attended Maynooth University where he obtained his B.A. in Psychology. Andrew has training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Unified Protocol for Emotional Disorders (UP). All of Andrew’s training is underpinned by a humanistic approach which centres the client as the focus of the work. Andrew has extensive research experience and numerous publications in the areas of impulse control, substance abuse, and effective training methods for therapists. Andrew sees clients from 16 years of age and he incorporates Emotions Focused (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) techniques into his work. This allows for a client’s practical and emotional needs to be met in holistic manner. Through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, he equips his clients with practical tools and strategies to manage their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This evidence-based method helps clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns, fostering healthier perspectives on life's challenges. Emotion-Focused Therapy underpins his work with an emphasis on emotional intelligence and the understanding that emotions are a fundamental aspect of human experience. Andrew passionately believes that understanding and transforming unhelpful emotional processes can lead to profound personal growth, self-acceptance, and improved wellbeing. Andrew works collaboratively with clients to formulate goals and a treatment plan for therapy. His approach is rooted in collaboration, respect, and personalised care. He helps individuals understand their strengths, overcome their challenges, and embrace their authentic selves with a warm and non-judgmental approach. Andrew has worked in both primary and secondary care mental health services, working with children, adolescents, adults, and families to empower and equip them with the tools they need to navigate the world with confidence and resilience. Andrew has a particular place in his heart for working with people who are diagnosed or self-identify as being on the Autism Spectrum. He received his own Autism diagnosis at a young age and has a profound understanding of growing up in a world that is not designed for neurodiversity. Andrew is passionate about helping other neurodivergent people cope with their social, sensory, and communicative challenges in safe and non-judgmental manner. Typical therapy can often be challenging for neurodiverse people, and can lead to frustration and disappointments when a client's unique needs cannot be supported by interventions aimed at the neurotypical population.
