Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Using an integrative lens, Carmel works with what her clients bring into the therapeutic space to allow them to recognise your own strengths and resources with the concerns they bring to therapy.
As a relationship therapist, Carmel, realises that there is not a one size fits all approach to relationship therapy, and she draws on theories such as Gottman, Developmental Model, Transactional Analysis etc. to help her clients identify the best way forward.
Carmel uses a primarily person-centred approach – understanding that each client bring their own strengths and personal issues to the relationship. She helps them to utilise these strengths to improve their understanding and communication with each other. She deals with relationship issues such as infidelity (both physical and emotional), blended families, issues around communication and trust, understanding the different stages of relationships and where a relationship might get stuck.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Carmel offers a safe, inclusive, non-judgmental space for clients to bring their true selves to the therapy and their relationship. This creates an opportunity for clients to be vulnerable with their partner and to reap the rewards this can bring to their relationship.
As a psychosexual therapist, Carmel, recognises that sexuality is very individual to each person and that each individual brings their own version of their sexuality to therapy. Carmel deals with issues such as erectile dysfunction, ejaculation difficulties, vaginismus, dyspareunia and inability to orgasm in a non-judgemental way for each client that comes into the therapeutic space.
Carmel also works with low sexual desire in relationships helping couples to work together to bridge the gap between and recreate a fulfilling sex life. She relishes the opportunity to work with clients to help them to develop in their sexuality and relationships – allowing space for personal growth and communication to flourish.
