Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Sandra has a BA (Hons) in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Munster Technological University (MTU), is a Registered General Nurse and a qualified Mindfulness Teacher (MSc Psychology in Mindfulness Based Wellbeing at University College Cork). Sandra is also fully trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
Sandra is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) which confirms her qualification to work within an agreed ethical framework and code of practice.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Sandra is an existential and humanistic integrative psychotherapist and counsellor whose therapeutic approach includes Gestalt, Trauma Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Based Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Internal Family Systems.
At its core, Sandra’s approach to counselling and psychotherapy allows for individuals to develop their innate potential to grow, nurture and maintain strong and healthy relationships, first and foremost with themselves and flowing naturally from that, with others. Sandra provides each client with a personalised therapeutic experience.
Sandra will invite clients to express and understand their own thoughts, feelings and behaviors while reflecting on how to manage their life experience, transitions and challenges while also supporting them to find new and more creative ways to resolve the issues or difficulties they are facing. Sandra supports clients to recognise their strengths, choices and responsibilities while promoting greater self-awareness, self-development and growth.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Sandra has many years’ experience working with people affected by chronic illness, cancer and bereavement, including many years experience working as a hospice nurse. As well as working with individuals, Sandra conducts online and face to face mindfulness-based courses supporting people diagnosed with a chronic illness and the ensuing feelings which may result from such a diagnosis. She also runs research-based mindfulness courses such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Sandra has many years experience working with clients with a variety of issues such as relationship issues, anxiety, stress (including Post traumatic Stress), self- esteem issues, trauma, developmental trauma, chronic illness, terminal illness, bereavement, work-related stress and anxiety, while also working with clients to improve and enhance self-care and wellbeing. She has several years experience working as a student counsellor in a university setting.
The therapeutic process is one which can provide insight into many areas of a person’s life resulting in a more empowered way of being with a greater sense of connection to self and others.
