Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Integrative psychotherapy takes from humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Thomas also trained in forms of body psychotherapy and is particularly interested in how our bodies manifest our unconscious in the form of symptoms and automated behaviour.
What is interesting is how all the pieces fit together. Resolving our internal conflicts allows the psyche to integrate and reach peace. The conflicts operate outside awareness and bringing it to awareness to resolve it is the work. For example, ‘I want’ clashes with ‘I should’. Sometimes, what we think we should do stops us moving for what we want or need.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
I could list areas like anxiety, depression etc. If those things were part of a tree, they would be the leaves and flowers. In psychotherapy, you and I, will be working with the roots of the tree, the deeper aspects of who you are. When the roots become healthier, the leaves and flowers grow the way they are meant to by themselves.
