Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Tony holds an HDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a MA in Psychotherapy from Dublin Business School (DBS) and is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
EMDR is an integrative approach to the treatment of trauma related symptoms using a combination of traditional psychotherapy modalities and bi-lateral stimulation, including eye movements, tapping and audio tones. It incorporates both mind and body awareness and has been scientifically proven to alleviate the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Tony is trained in EMDR for adults, adolescents and children.
Tony is an accredited psychotherapist with the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and he abides by their Code of Ethics. He attends regular supervision, both individual and group supervision.
He engages in professional development by attending regular workshops and training sessions to keep himself up to date with new developments in his areas of particular interest and expertise.
Tony has also attained an Advanced Certificate in Jungian Sand Tray Therapy and is an associate member of Association for Jungian Sand Therapy in Ireland (AJSTI)
Sand Tray (Sand Play) therapy allows the client to engage with their unconscious mind through an array of miniature figures (symbols) to express non verbally what is taking place in their inner world, their thoughts, feelings, anxieties and stresses.

Counselling and Therapeutic Approach
Tony is a humanistic psychotherapist who uses the psychodynamic approach together with humanistic perspective as the main theoretical framework.
He has particular interest in the area of sexuality and works with individuals who present in therapy with relationship, sexuality and sexual concerns. Sexuality issues are often central to a client’s presenting issues in therapy. Tony allows each individual to explore their sexual fantasies and desires to help them to develop a level of comfort to converse on key areas of difficulties.
Tony focuses on therapeutic tools and essential skills required to effectively support clients to deal with such complex matters, so as to better understand their sexuality and treat the causes as well as the symptoms of their distress.
Counselling experience and areas of interests
Tony has a vast knowledge of life issues with over thirty years of working in the community as well as having experience owning and running a business with all its inherent challenges.
As a psychotherapist in the community, he has worked with men and women who have encountered bereavement, addictions, anxiety, trauma and relationship breakdown.
As part of his MA, he focused on those in Front Line occupations who encountered traumas in their everyday work and how the symptoms such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) could be addressed and dealt with by the individual. His training in EMDR (a technique developed by Dr Francine Shapiro) is to help individuals to resolve trauma related disorders caused by exposure to distressing, traumatic or negative life events.
Tony has worked as a student counsellor in Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University College Dublin (UCD) helping students deal with academic anxiety, exam anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety and self-esteem issues. He has worked extensively with students to address their fears, enabling them complete their assignments and sit their exams.
Tony has been a regular contributor to the Pat Kenny radio show on Newstalk 106FM, discussing relationship issues.
